Okay i already have a small tank...
For some MAD reason i saw a tank with a stand and lighting and a filter for only £99!!!!! its 100 Litres

I love guppies so eventually i will have alot :)
and i like all the different types of tetras
and i like siamese fighter fish.
Anyone who would like to help me with how many fish/ what types are fine together?

And i have NEVER ever used live plants.. but they look absolutely stunning!!! need help with that too

I know how to cycle... i did it with my small tank .
I have got liquid test kits and gravel and an air pump (which i will have to move)
I need a new heater though. Any one know of a great brand for this size of tank?

Woah its going to take at least a month!!!

I suggest you read all the pinned topics on cycling and in the plant section there are a lot of pinned topics on how to care for plants.

If you already have a cycled tank you can take some of the filter media from it and use it to jump start the cycle on the new tank.

OK, as said above, cloning the filter from a mature tank will help kick-start things greatly  If you are going with a direct upgrade-transfer, set up the new tank, and transfer the fish in the old tank and the old tanks filter media accross in one go after it's up to temperature, and bingo :hyper: If this is a second tank though, and you are keeping the existing one going, don't take more than 1/3 of the mature tanks filter media for the kick-start or the existing tank may hit problems

Guppies need a mature tank, preferably that has been going 6+ months, or you will struggle to keep them. They often struggle in a mature tank with A1 care, the trade stock is that weak  Leave these untill the last addition for the tank to give yourself the best chance of success :good:

A male fighter will not mix with male guppies, so you need to make a choice there. All female guppies and a male fighter, or male guppies and no male fighter. Female fighters and guppies mix no issues, likewise female guppies and male fighters, but the long tails and bright colours on the male guppies will fire the agressive side of most male fighting fish

Again, most tetras will be fine, but you need to be careful with them. Some will nip, so post back with the exact types you are interested in and go from there

The tank is about 20g, so you can have upto 20" of adult length fish in there for the first 6 months, and with good filtration and rigourous maintanance, you can double that after 6 months :good:

Yeah i agree with rabbut, tetras will nip a male fighters fins especially neons, but some others might be ok, and if the male guppy and the male fighter are the same colour the guppy won't last long...

sounds like you got yourself a bargain there.
as for the heater, my tank is a little over 100 litres and i have a interpret heater 200 watts. it's set to heat at 26 degrees c and has no trouble keeping the water this temperature, even at night and during the cold spell we are currently having. it was £15 so not to expensive. the only bad thing is that the little plastic rings that attach the heater to the suction cups are very easily snapped and broken.

Aha i should of known.
My my and dad are keeping my old tank because in the past fish keeping has cost me 180 pounds and only had a 27 litre tank.
How funny

Female fighter sounds nice. I may just leave it... i thought with both guppy and fighter being fancy maybe they would be okay... as i saw a male fighter in a tank with platys

I am interested in rummy nose, glowlight, more neon tetras (have 3 and they are so peaceful) and maybe some more black and white tetras.
Oh yeah i forgot i have an interest in Harlequin Rasboras.. Platy's and mollies

Starting to feel abit scared every time i walk in my room i get a large slap in the face with a HUGE tank. Except it doesnt look as big in my room. haha
I will transfer over my 6 male guppies and 5 tetras.

Couldnt resist an Ex display tank. I better not count the pennies which i have already spent. My mum is getting a bargain  i bet she will steal my API liquid tests aswell.
its not her who spent summer job money on fish, then on top of that another 100 pounds
hahaha
Imagine how much all these fish will cost. and the nice ornaments i like

^^ Haha, yer, the real cost comes when you put stuff in the tank

IME all the fish you plan to mix with the fighters will be fine, appart from the male guppies. It should be noted that there are many reports of all nipping or being nipped by the fighter, as well as not being, so, individual circumstances may vary :good:

All the best

I wont chance it.
Want ot persuade my old tank to be for 1 fighter. got no chance. hehe
Im never going to breed fish so it will be all male guppies thats for sure.
So mollies, platys, endlers (beautiful but doubt i can find any around), tetras (please give me advice on the most compatible ones) and Zebra danios i looked at today looked alot nicer than some pics give them justice for.... Would they be O.K? oh yes and not forgetting the harlequin Rasboras

All will mix, with the tetras being the "grey area". Remember that danios look different under different light. Under daylight they have a wonderful blue background to them, and their banding looks navy in enough natural light. Under aquarium florescents though, they tend to beach out a little

With the tetras, the general rule is torpedo shaped = well behaved, diamond shaped = nasty fin nipper. Avoid silver-tips as they are the exception to the rule ;)
