ok, i just woke up it's 6:30 AM. Turned on lights to my fish and tank was standing there for a min and looking at the fish. Looked at my amazon swordtail and there is this small round (probably around the size of a pin head) semi-clear brown thing scooting up and down the leaf.

It looks to have a shell on it like it's growing a shell (i thought snails have to have artifical shells?).

Regardless i didn't give 2 craps, and thought this neededs to be posted. Is this a snail? Is this one of those snails that breeds 3000 snails a week?

I didn't put any snails in this tank at all. I got my 5 cory's and 6 neon's about 2-3 weeks ago, and one neon died last week so i got another one to put in there. I got no idea how this snail appeared out of thin air (assuming that's what it is).

I wouldn't mind a snail, but i do not want to be one of those people crushing a million snails a month because they reproduce like rabbits.

If it is, i will kill it straight away. How would this snail have magically appeared in there. I got my fish from petsmart and there snails are in a species only tank.

Edit: Looking for the original one, i spotted another. There is a large® one and then there is a tiny one, both cruising around on leaves. Must know if there evil snails or not?

Sound like pest snails to me. A pic would help to id it properly.
They could have come in with the water from your new fish or the plants are the most probable cause.

I think i just got the same problem, I bought some new plants and now i have tiny dots moving around in my tank, You can see from the bigger ones there clearly snails.

How quickly will they become a probem? and whats the best way of dealing with them?

I have some clown loaches in my main tank, ive i transfer then over will they eat them?

I think Clowny and Bonzo will be the perfect solution to this little problem (there my clown fish) :) the tank is only small (40L) but so are they at the min (2"ish) and they do seem to love snals.

i had a pregnant guppy in a nursery tank she gave birth and i took het out. on the side of the nursery there was a strange shape that had appered on the day of the birth didnt think much of it. a week later it had grow into a snail i think it came from the birth of my guppies

Suggesting a 14" + fish to someone with a 100litre tank isnt sensible tbh. On top of the size issue Clown Loaches are communal fish so you would need 5 or more for them to be happy. He would be better looking at Botia as they stay substantially smaller but love snails. There is also Banjo Cats as an option which also remain a lot smaller.

i learned where the problem came from. Was at petsmart getting 2 ghost shrimp, and looked in the neon tank and no suprise i saw snails out the wazoo all over the glass and stuff.

There going to have some real fun as most of em are still small.

He was soon squashed by my hand shortly after the picture was taken.

Edit: On the roots of the 2 plants i got that are sitting just atop the gravel not actually planted down in it. I noticed 2 white spots on one and 1 white spot on the other. I suspect these to be eggs. Am i right?

You should read my post again, I wasnt suggesting him by clown fish,. I was suggesting i use the ones i already have for my problem. I am aware that they get big bug i didnt knwo that when i got em :(

"I think Clowny and Bonzo will be the perfect solution to this little problem"

I assumed that part was aimed at the originator of this thread, suggesting that Clowny and Bonjo, (meaning Clown Loach and Banjo) as in Banjo Catfish would be good choices.

Think you are lucky to be able to use clown loaches... I have the mini snail problem and squash loads every day, although I have to say the platties and guppies rush to eat the squashed ones, but I can't use medication or put a loach in because I have apple snails and I love those guys. I assume that if I put loaches in they will nibble the apple snail too. My friend has loaches and was going to loan me one to have dinner in my tank but had to say no.

I am resigned to being on snail watch forever!! My big tank is 180litre but I set up a small hospital tank and I used a little of the water from the main tank to help recycling but although I had a really good look at the water, they transferred in so I have emptied it out again and am going to recycle from scratch, shame it would have been so much quicker using water from the main tank (which is very healthy apart from the snails!) God damned poxy pest snails!

Looks like Physa Acuta or Physa Fontinalis to me. (Common names: Pond Snail, Aquarium Snail, Plant Snail, Bladder / Tadpole / Pouch )

IF you have NOT got shrimp or any other inverts / crusties then use this:
â€￾Flubenol 15â€￾: http://www.flubenol.co.uk/
...goodbye snails!!!!

Apparently it is very hard to overdose on the stuff (the tank that is, not you).

GL

Andy

PS
Do NOT crush snails when they are in the tank - this may release eggs!
