I have a 30 gal tank stocked with 2 angels, 9 tetras and some snails. I have just been given 2 albino corys and 1 emerald green cory. According to what I have read on this site, I should have at least 3 of each. Would that overstock my tank? I do have two filters running.

Thanks!

welcome to the forum. :good:

your tank will be fine with a group of corys, they are not big waste producers so wont have a massive effect on the bioload/filter. ideally its best to have them in groups of 6+ but if you can get them up to 4 of each species in time then that should be fine see how the filters cope than add a couple more of each, giving 6 albinos and 6 emerald corys in total. its best to get the same species and not lots of different types so they will swim together and you will defo see the best in them. take your time in adding the fish to get the numbers up so you dont cause any spikes from the increase in ammonia etc.

very playfull and good fish to watch, im sure you will lve them :good:

any more questions on them dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks so much! Would it be safe to add 1 albino and 2 emeralds at one time (this weekend) or should I just start with 1 emerald to give my single "guy" a friend? And when you talk of adding fish gradually, how would you define that?

3 corys will be fine to add at once, then just keep an eye on the water stats for a spike in ammonia due to the extra fish as your filters will be used to the stock levels you currently have. feed lightly for a few days even though you have more fish and the filter will catch up with the new bioload. then leave it a week or so and then it should be safe to add 3 more, repeat the process until you have your group of corys complete with the numbers wanted :good:

do you have a test kit? to test the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate etc etc....

if not then i would recommend getting one just to keep an eye on the parameters from time to time especially when adding new fish. there are many available to buy but avoid the test strips as they are very unaccurate, the ones to get are liquid based like the API freshwater masterkit. this will have tests to check for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, high range pH and will last for ages. the best place to get one if you are in the UK is ebay as they are available for about £17 but in fish shops they are as much as £30
