Psssst. Don't know if you guys have heard? Some form of plastics, chemicals, even metals can change the gender of living organisms?

Great if you want a load of easy to-look-after girlies, BUT guess what happens to the males? ;)

What do you mean exactly? Like Percula/Ocellaris Clownfish, perhaps? They're all male at birth, but when they mate, the larger one (more capable of producing eggs) becomes a female. Later on in life, if the female dies and another male moves in, the older large male (who may have already played the role of male once in his life) will become a female and repeat the process.

Or am I totally off base on what you're asking?

Rhinogobius Wui is a goby that does the opposite.
A male Wui rules a harem of females and develops totaly different colouring to the females which he uses to aggresively defend his harem from other males.

In the event the famales find themselves without a male protector, one of the females whill change colour and defend the group and act like a male in every way untill a new male moves in.

We have two of these facinating fish and we want more!

I got the feeling that he was talking about fish like anthias, and haveing something in the tank that pushes them all one way, like a hormone or hormone mimic.

SM, there are infinitly many fish that do that, basslets, plenty of gobies, clowns, anthias, in SW it really helps to be able to mate with watever you find.

I know certain chemicals mutate genes and DNA in some fish. PCB its called i think. It mutalates sexual and reproductive organs so soft snails and things like nudibranchs cant re-produce.

Isn't there some fish that change its sex due to temperature change or water depth change? :/

And even scarier, some chicken hormones bring on incredibly early human maturation in females, youngest I've heard of in Australia is like 6?

The youngest mother in history was 5 years old... needless to say, she had some hormonal issues.

Just read that article. I think the taboo around child molestation is a very good one. Scary, scary indeed. Sometimes I wonder about people. Just recently a fourteen year old in caboolture just north of brisbane gave birth to a son to her uncle. He had been raping her every night right in the same room as his daughter was sleeping. Sicko. Needless to say he has lost wife and the children in his care are no longer in his care.
