I have an odd situation. There are three kribs in my 38 gallon - I thought they were all females. One is the mom female and the other two are female offspring. Well, over the past week, I've suspected that one of the females is actually a male.

Anyway, the "daughter" laid eggs in a patch of vallis and stays in the vallis protecting the eggs. The original mother krib is guarding the "daughters" nest from the outside. The male (brother) is getting chased by the mother. He actually went inside the nest and the sister attacked him but unfortunately he consumed many of her eggs.

This all seems very odd to me. Is it normal for two females to defend the nest???
