Got a new bright red guppy named Flame after the tragic death of one of my first fish, Tux
.
At first he totally ignored the girls, even when they were swimming near him, he just swam off.
Well, checked on him a couple of minutes ago and he was displaying for my platy! She is a female platy, so he's not gender confused or anything, but it was so funny, seeing him displaying for her, while the female gups swam by, probably wondering what he was doing
I know they can't hybridize or anything, but I feel sorry fot the little guy... knowing that it can't work out
Meanwhile, the platy is looking at him with this 'blank' look on her face... probably wondering who he is and why he's bothering her while she's looking for food
The platy never had any 'friends' of her own, the closest she came to was another female platy a while ago... who died for some unknown reason. The gups always minded their own business and she was a 'loner'... if a fish can even be a loaner...
I've heard of gups displaying for all kinds of things, but I'd imagine they also displayed for their own kind, this little guy totally ignores the gups, and only takes interest in the platy!
Oh well, I figure he'll realize nothing can happen between them soon enough
