I had bought 4 african cichlids at walmart when they were on clearance. 3 died. maybe water quality? maybe killed? andyway the consensus was maybe some kind of red zebra/lab/salousi/or mix thereof....

so now that I have only one left... what should I do with it?

1. keep it in a 15/20 gallon tank by itself

2. put something else with it (suggestions?)

3. create an african cichlid tank with my 30 gallon available (again suggestions?)

4. put it in an existing tank with 10 tiger barbs

5. put it in a 55 gallon with my rainbow shark, blue gouramis, 3 angels, and some neon tetra? are they as aggressive when alone?

plz share suggestions... thanks...

Wasn't really sure which of those options to choose. I don't know a great deal about these cichlids but from the little I've read, they do best when kept in a harem (one male to several females). But as they are territorial and aggressive, I'm not sure a 30 gallon would be large enough for all of them.

Is this fish a juvie or adult now? Is it male or female?

Ok, well in that case I think it would be prudent to keep this fish on its own until it reaches maturity so that you can have a better chance of sexing it. No point assuming it's one or the other and end up putting it in with the wrong sex. Hopefully, once it's matured, it's true colours will show. Might be the same as it is now - or it may change if it's male.

Do you have a pic of it on the forums anywhere?

Regards, Athena
