So a while ago my sister got a couple of rare hybrid cichlids that were able to breed. She originally had them in her 20 long and when we upgraded the 20 long into a 33 we moved a large female and a bunch of her slightly smaller offspring into the 125. After the smaller offspring grew up a little bit we would find them dead by ones or twos until it was only one other large male in the tank that followed her around. Eventually he wound up dead, which made my sister and I believe that she had been killing off all the other cichlids in the tank that looked like her even though they were her offspring. In the 125 I have an large orange parrot hybrid, sis calls him cheese wheel or big cheese. About 2 weeks ago we noticed that he was digging into the substrate and wound up making a huge crater on the left side of the tank. Curious as to who had peaked his interest in building such a love nest, we secretly waited to see who he paired up with as the only other cichlid in the tank was the hybrid female, which is significantly smaller than him. Surprise, one day we found a clutch of eggs sitting in the crater and the two love birds guarding the crater we thought the eggs would be duds, but after the second day we noticed that they seemed fertilized as only two of them were white. We wondered if they hatched what kind of oddball cichlids we would have. Unfortunately something found the eggs and ate them. We do have about seven rope fish in the tank, as well as an assortment of clown, whiptail and larger plecos in the tank, so they probably found them and feasted on them.
