i bought bruce 2 days ago. theres some behaviour im not sure about. i have a large tank with loads of hiding places so i thought id try 2 males in there as i was told there would be a lil bit of a scrap but they wouldnt fight to the death as they can escape from each other. supposedly theyd fight till there was a clear winner then that would be it. bit info on this would also be good. anyways the thing is when i introduced derek my other male he flared like hell. but no nipping or biting. "bruce flared once then nothing at all. he just swam away and was persued by a flaring derek.

to add ive split them back up derek wouldnt leave bruce alone he constantly chased after him.

I'm not sure about this, but, i think bettas should not be kept together what ever you have in your tank it will not help.

OK so males together are not a good idea.
But you can sometimes get lucky and find males that will happily co-exist in a large tank.

When i had a 3foot community with loads of Caves and planting, i tried different pairings and found 2 that would swim with each other and no flaring or fighting. they would follow each other around and sleep next to each other.

I think it works better with spawn siblings as my 3 males never fought or flared at each other.

The only Males that will not fight are Imbellis, you can have more than 1 male in the tank without fighting.

I don't know where you got your info, but two males should never be kept together. I did have a male jump over a divider into another male's side. When I finally realized they were getting along beautifully, no fighting whatsoever, but I quickly separated them again only to find them together once again. I finally put them in their own containers. I believe I was lucky because they did not fight, but I would not suggest keeping 2 together ever.

I was stating on past experience with very docile males that i did have = Eyes Look Read English

Please read up on Imbellis bettas, and you will see that they will co-exist and i think there are some other types aswell.

there was someone on here ages ago and managed to keep 8 from the same spawn together,I woulndt recommend putting 2 males together. The person that told you that was just plain stupid to me lol.

I would just suggest - that if you were going to do that... make sure you can watch them all the time... b/c you might find one dead the next time you look in on them. Anything's possible. I personally would never try it b/c I love my bettas too much to take the chance. And believe me... I would LOVE it if I could have bettas that co-exist... I would love a tank full of them... but I know it's not possible.

I wouldn't try it.
They're not called fighting fish for nothing.
Yes you MIGHT get lucky and have 2 males that do nothing but flare at eachother.
But why risk the chance of them becoming more aggressive and one or both getting killed.

I'm sorry, but you could line up a thousand people in front of me that told me they kept males together and I still wouldn't do it. There are far too many other stories of males being far too aggressive.

im not going to keep them together. i just thought id try it on someones advice. would be nice if i could :)
