Hi,

One of my female zebra's is exhibiting some very odd behaviour.

She swims underneath my one of the leaves on my anubis and then stops. She then floats up and is 'caught' in place by the curl of the leaf. She lays like this for up to 5 minutes at a time, often rolling on to her side. Eventually she drifts out, swims around and then back to the leaf again!

She has been doing this for about a month and appears to be her usually, healthy, hungry self. She is about 2 years old and very mature.

Is she just tired of swimming about?

Thanks for any ideas.

She may have a bit of a swim bladder problem if she floats upwards. You could try feeding her a bit of crushed up garden pea (frozen peas work, just leave them in boiling water for a few mins).

That being said, Danios are supposed to live for around two years or so, so it might be her time :(

Cheers Dev,

I've tried the peas before - these zebra's only eat meat, I've never got them to eat anything green, they just spit it out!

She's had a swim bladder problem all her life - always floats up when she stops swimming.

Maybe she's just realised how to rest.
