I did a partial water change two days ago and when I did I noticed a depression in the gravel. So, I smoothed it out and put everything back in place. Now my Oscars are being very violent, attacking my pleco, the glass, each other, etc., and my largest keeps wriggling his body back and forth in one place to clear out a depression in the gravel and he also scoops up the gravel with his mouth and dumps the rocks on top of the pleco. There is now a depression in the gravel twice as big as the original. Any ideas as to what is going on here?

Sounds like breeding signs to me....Most NW cichlids will pick a spot out...clean it and usually dig a hole in preperation for a spawn..They will also put the aggression into overdrive while protecting their fry.How big is your tank?

I can't remember exactly, but I want to say somewhere around 100-110 gallons

I've never kept breeding Oscars so i can't help too much further...Someone on here has defiantely done it but im pretty sure you might be able to pull it off in a 100gal tank....Although anything else in the tank may not survive...and if they do the'll be miserable...Again don't quote me on that.
