Don't know if that image link has worked as otherwise this post is pointless. I bought this a couple of months ago with another "Otocinclus" but obviously it isn't an Otocinclus. When I bought them they looked the same. The other one definitely is as it's still only about an inch and a half long whereas this thing has grown to over three inches. You can see the small Otocinclus attached to the log on the right but does anyone know what this other fish is? And... how big is it going to get? It's extremely friendly so I don't want to get rid of it (unless it starts to get huge) but I'm just curious to know what it is.

P.S This is my first post.....

Sorry but the link dosn't work.

Hi, welcome to the forum,

I can't see your pic but i'd put my money on chinese algae eater. Take a look at the pinned fish index pic and see if it is.

Emma

Sorry Emma I haven't got a clue what I'm doing ... where am I looking?

Hopefully my picture has come up now as my profile picture... it's small but it should be there....

the picture in your profile looks to me like a flying fox Epalzeorhynchus kallopterus but it could also be a SAE (siamese algea eater) Crossocheilus siamensis or a false flying fox Garra taeniata

this topic may help you decide which one you have

Yes I think it may be a Siamese Algae eater or a false one. The black stripe doesn't extend right through the tail but stops just short of it which indicates a false ? At least it;s identified thanks guys.... I've just got to deal with the millions of baby platys I've got at the moment....

First off, welcome to the forum. :hi:

I would also say False SAE. I can't see the tail in the profile pic but it looks as if the stripe starts at the eyes. On a true SAE, the stripe starts at the nose.

As for posting pictures, you can probably use photobox. I use photobucket.com. Just load your picture there and click the "Photo" button (the one with the pic of a tree) when you make your post here. Enter the URL and you are good to go.

Much as I'd like to think it's a false siamese algae eater, the face just puts me off too much.

Does it look like that? Face wise as well?

What seems more like it to me is the chinese algae eater (also more often sold as otos when young)
Not posting this image, as it's rather large :p So you're gonna have to click the link :)
Does this match more face/colour wise?
