Did anyone watch it!

I cant believe someone would let that happen to their pets! At least most of them did turn it around! It was interesting to watch I must admit!

I dont mind giving my dog treats but there is a limit as to the amounts he'll get

I saw it.....I thought my dalmation was fat!

That woman with the rotwieler should have that dog taken off her, the groomer was right in saying she is killing the dog with love.

I know, cant believe people cant see what they are doing to them ! The strain on their poor hearts must be huge !

I take it you mean the first one (I missed first half hour) where she is refusing to stop giving it treats? My nans Cavalier king charles is as big as the one that was feature if not bigger but she has loads of medical conditions and wasnt expected to live past 1yr old but she is now 7 and spoilt rotten as she is always at the vets for her heart and other problems so I can understand it! But to have a young and otherwise healthy dog and feed it to the extent that it gets sooo big is just not on! Yeah give them titbits and treats but you have to also counter balance it by cutting back their main food! I've reduced my dogs amount of food as I know my neighbour gives him catfood and other tit bits as well as my friends doing it and of course I give him treats but he is no where near fat! Yes old dogs/cats do get fatter as they age but urgh gross!

I felt so sorry for the one that had the knee operation as instead of losing weight before it he'd put on a Kilo, all because his mum kept giving it titbits! oh well at least he started to loose weight after the op which was great for the dog!

Was it a one off episode or is it a series?

It should be treated as animal crielty, Ive no doubt they love their pets which makes it even more unbelievable they would put their health at risk. My dalmation eats like a JCB and her weight has to be kept an eye on. When she is on a diet she cries and physically shakes for food but you have to be cruel to be kind.

I agree with that you have to be cruel to be kind! Even though it is very hard when you see those puppy dog eyes looking at you when your eating lol!

One of my friends if she's eating and my dog looks at her she always gives him some of whatever she's eating inc chocolate I'm fed up of telling her not to esp as chocolate is bad for dogs! She even lets him drink from her cup and then carries on drinking which I find gross and it's my dog that she's doing it with even I wouldnt do that!

Anyway aside from that did you think it was good? I found it very interesting and it's made me more determined to limit how many treats he gets now!

how old is your dalmation big mick?

It's a shame that some people abuse their pets in such a way. Some breeds (as well as some individual animals) are more prone to obesity. I have a vet nurse friend (ironically running a pet slimming clinic) with one of her own cats prone to weight problems - it's always stealing food from her other cat's bowls etc. and they have to be fed separately.

Anyhow, the programme was OK - I had it running in the background while doing other stuff. Not gripping stuff, but moderately interested :)

WE have such a problem with her eating cause she is so sneaky and very often blatent about stealing!! She would eat a 4 day old soggy left over chippy from the street!

Look at that face!! Only the cat comes before her!!

Aww she is adorable! Looks like butter wouldnt melt in her mouth lol! My jack russell used to be the same about being sneaky! I heard from one guy how his dalmation had eaten all but the crust of a pizza he had cooked to take to work for lunch! Then when he got home the dog went behind the tv and pulled out a piece that he had hidden for a snack later!

She doesnt look that fat to me, fancy trading her for my dog lol

I couldn't watch it--saw the trailer of it and that was enough-----what are the owners thinking of?

Yes, i saw that and thought the rottie owner should have that dog taken off her. Clearly it wasn't happy, it could barely stand up, its poor joints and heart :( At least the others were making an effort!

One of our Labs Chloe has been overweight since she was an 8 week old puppy when we brought her home. Thanfully she has got most of the weight off and is looking good now! :D Its hard work but you just have to be really strict with yourself and give no treats (even when they do the starved dog eyes!lol) and exercise them!! No animal could get as fat as the ones on that programme if they were getting exercise..

I didn't see the program, missed 'cos i was busy, but in general i agree people that let their animals get obese are irresponsable and cruel(it doesn't matter what their motives or reasons for over-feeding the animals are, its still cruelty). All sorts of animals are experts at begging for food, particually dogs and cats with their cute "feed me, im hungry" looks, but just because the animal wants food doesn't mean it needs it.
I mean, its no different from looking after a childs diet in some respects- kids want sweets and candy all the time, most 8yr olds would probably more than happily chow down unlimited quantitys of chocolate all day long and look really happy for it, but that doesn't mean you should give it to them nor does it mean its good for them.
I think the other part with obese animals is excercise, most dog owners in particular simply don't give their pets enough daily excercise. Most people will buy a particular breed of dog now days for its looks rather than what it was originally breed for- this can be bad though, for example, labradors were originally breed as working farm and hunting dogs and thus have been bred to have limitless amounts of energy. Most breeds of labradors need around a 3 hour walk a day ideally, although the more the better. Most people simply don't think of this though- as much as these sorts of dogs are very charming and cuddly, they need to be worked/excercised regually if you are going to attend their physical and mental needs properly- labradors really hate just sitting indoors for hours on end as they are not only very energetic dogs but also very intelligent...
