I am going to set up my two sets from Supercoley1 (cheers btw mate), and I want to use just one ladder. Can I use a standard T piece for now? Most major question, if I am putting this on top of my aquarium can I use a standard non-return valve for now? Or do I have to make one?

I don't use a non return as the pressure is going one way, down into the tank, no reason for any water to travel up it as far as I know.

Sorry should have said I use the yeast based co2 units so maybe they don't require them, only a novice at planted so maybe I am doing it wrong ????

Never had problems with that, but then I am extra careful about the measures I use and only fill it up to the top of the internal fins, anymore than that and you may have the problem but can't say as I've any issues with yeast rising and passing through the tubing.

It's not for backflow. Its to stop the yeast going down the pipe into the tank. I have read about this happening to several people and killing their fish. You can se a bubble counter, one of the DIY ones made out of a bottle.

True, but if the mixture travels into the tank, you are probably adding too much.

I know what you mean, i didn't know you filled tem with water though?

I use 2 DIY bottles attached to the same CO2 input tubing with a 'T' connector. I also have shut off screws for each so that I can disconnect one bottle (to renew yeast etc) and still keep the other one pumping CO2 into my external.

I would always use a non return valve - they're so easy to put in why not use one?

Good luck
