Hi,

I am looking into getting some food for my plants and noticed that you can buy the Nutrafin Plant Gro Aquatic Plant food. It says on the bottle that its not toxic to fish but im worried about what its actually adding to the water and whether it will affect any parameters? If it does is there any plant food that people have used successfully without it affecting water quality?

Cheers

It is rubbish and i wouldnt reccomend it. I am not sure it contains nitrate or phosphate (which plants need) but if it does then these elements will rise but not by much. I would reccomend Seachem Flourish or Tropica PLant nutrition or the 'plus' version. All available from Aqua Essentials and The Green Machine.

no i wouldnt recommend nutrafin gro either.. a big price for a whole load of nothing IMO. some plants will do really well with just the lighting( even rubbish lighting), what is it your growing?

I would love to be able to tell you shelagh, I can take some pics but the plants don't seem to resemble any of the genuine tropical plants you see on sale such as java fern's and amazon swords. I bought my plants from world of water but none of them were labelled with "names". Perhaps they are one of these stores that sells the wrong type of aquarium plants
