My friend gave me a hagen nutrafin nitrate test kit. I dont have the instructions, I was wondering if anyone can explain to me ( if they have this kit ) how many drops of what to use to get a reading.

And I don't have the colour key, so I'll just have to use it to determine whether there is 0 nitrates or alot depending on the darkness of the colour, If anyone can describe this to me it would be appriciated.

thanks!

Have you thought about checking to see if they have a web site? There might be instructions you can download off there.

Hmmm have you rung/visited any of your LFS to see if they sell it? You could tell them that you lost the paper work or something?

Fill the test tube to the 5ml line with tank water.

Add five drops of reagent #1 and five drops of reagent #2.

Shake well and wait 2 mins for a reading.

Hopefully, the solution will remain clear, which equals zero nitrite.

Dave.

Dave gave you the procedure for Nitrite,

The Nitrate process is

Fill to 5ml Line
5 Drops of reagent 1
5 drops of reagent 2
Shake well
Shake reagent 3 vigorously
3 drops into test tube
Shake well
Wait 5 mins for colour to develop
Shake Again
The darker purple it is the more Nitrate present

Hope this helps

Sorry, my mistake on the title. I didn't realize that it was a nitrate kit untill I noticed NO3 is nitrate, which was after I posted the title.

Well i didn't read the thread title properly! haha

I have the minimaster test kit and the reagents 1 and 2 are different for the Nitrate and Nitrite tests, so leaving out reagent 3 wont give you the result for Nitrite (unless the reagents are actually the same!?)

regant 3 would be the nitrate one
Theres nitrite which i think is NO2 and Nitrate which is NO3...i think again
The nitrite ones pink and th enitrate ones purple
