Ok so i have set my first set up going today using the advice form a previous thread on the mixture. So far so good had a fair few bubbles going after 10 minuits so i left it, then came back to find the tank mega cloudy and that it had leaked through the pipe into the tank, is this harmful? i have done a small water change but i dont want to expect i have just killed off everything in my tank!

Advice??!!

do as big a WC as is possible, get the most of it out, its happened to me in the past with no lasting effects, then empty some of the mix out and keep it just below the top mark, you may want to have it run in a bucket of water to check for leaks the next time round, if its ok after about an hour then id say its pretty safe to go :)

you`ll soon get to grips with the amounts etc, its only happend once to me and im no genius :)

I use the Nutrafin system and although I haven’t had this issue I have read about others getting the mix into their tanks. Of all the forum posts I have read on this none of them lost any fish and had their tanks back to normal after a big water change or two.

Wouldn’t worry too much ;-) might have a few tipsy fish swimming about though!

Ok, Ive done a half water change so far, bit cloudy but the filter has been put onto max flow, and its starting to clear, if it isnt fully cleared by tonight ill set up for another WC tomorrow morning. So fingers 'X'ed

i had this problem all the time, never happened after i bought brewer's yeast for making beer etc etc

i added bi carb aswell

Run it through a bubble counter next time so the yeast mix overflows into the counter and not the tank.

Yeah but it gives you time to spot that something is wrong and sort it, also if you make a counter out of a large plastic bottle, it should take an age to fill if the yeast mix overflows.

I take it they're pretty small things? I used to use a 500ml bottle on my diy setup, nothing ever got through but then my mix didn't seem to overflow much anyways. The counter on my pressurised setup would overflow in seconds if used in the same situation.
