Hi

One of my Green Neons has paled in colour. Not on his blue/green strip which I'm hoping is why it ISN'T Neon Tetra disease but his body is kind speckled looking if that makes sense. Significant enough that I can easily pick him out from the other 6. There have been no white cysts or anything and I reckon I've had them nearly 2 months now.

Do you think it could still be the dreaded NTD? All the others are fine, water stats are good and the only other thing is I have a poorly Platy who's sypmtoms I can't seem to place. I thought he had a bacterial infection, then I thought maybe internal parasites but now he's starting to bloat (I think, could be paranoia) so you know what I'm worried about now.

It's hard to know what/if to treat so any thoughts would be welcome!

If the fish haven't been kept with neon tetra's it dosn't sound like ntd.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Make of test kit you are using.

Any tiny white spots on the fish body.
Does the area look a greyish white.
Any signs of excess mucas or slime.
Is the fish flicking and rubbing against objects in the tank.
Does the fish dart about the tank, or any signs of erratic swimming.
Does the fish labour breath or gasp.
Any sores or red pin prick marks on the fish body.

Hiya, thanks for reply.

Water stats are all fine - Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20, Ph about 7.2. I use the API kit.

I haven't added any new Tetras recently (just some Sparkling Gourami who are fine about 3 weeks ago) so I guess if they had NTD I would have known before now?

I've just had a closer look and he does have a white spot/patch on the end of his nose? The others don't have it!

He does kinda look a bit white from a distance, when I look up close it just looks like his greay has gone speckely.

No mucus or slime, flicking, eracti swimming or darting and his breathing seems normal.

There is what could or could not be a couple of prick marks on his body though.

What do you think?

I just found this whilst looking for another post.

I thought you may like to know that nearly a month on and the Neons all seem to be fine *touch wood*. After I posted this his geen/blue stripe did start to go too and another one started to develop the same colouring. I did treat with some Waterlife Protizine in the hope that maybe it was just fake NTD. Well, at the time it didn't seem to work but about a week ago I noticed I couldn't pick the sick one out from the others any more and today I'm looking at them and their stripes are back to being a brilliant blue/green. So who knows what that was! What do you think, fake NTD?

Their red is hardly visable now though. Is that normal? Coz I'm guessing if they did have anything I'd have lost some or all of them by now?

Sadly my Platy didn't make it though. Never found out what it was
