Where on earth can I buy some ammonia, Have tried the local chemist and a large Boots, B&Q, Superdrug....does anyone have any good ideas????? really want to get my tank set up and cycling but need to get the ammonia...I never thought it would be this hard to find :/

Any suggestion welcomed :)

try several chemists, and check to see if they would be willing to order some for you. remember to ask for "household ammonia"

It took me three chemists to get some eventually

wanda can you post where you eventually get some from please. i plan to start cycling another smaller tank as soon as i can get hold of one

cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers

i think i may startan ammonia business, posting it out to anyone who wants it at cost + £1 - 50p for my troubles, 50p for charity... but im sure there has to be something about posting ammonia that cannot be allowed.

Hi
Boots do sell ammonia, its in thier cleaning dept and called household ammonia and is a Boots brand product it comes in a 500ml plastic bottle for just a couple of quid.
It lists just ammonia and water and works fine, I used it to cycle my Rio 180.

it depends on the boots in particular as to whether it stocks its. we have 3 boots stores in dundee, only 1 has it.

I will keep trying and see what I can find any other suggestions welcomed...oh and no Ironmongers or household goods shops here...this is very much the home counties its all costa coffee, next, arty florists and john lewis department stores in this town :-( great if you want a coffee for a £10 a bunch of flowers that costs £50 and a teatowel that costs £20....

Homebase is your best bet. £1.97 for a bottle that will last you forever if it's just for cycling. It's in with their cleaning products stuff.

Good luck,
Ami

Does anyone have any links where people can order Ammonia suitable for fishless cycling, as in my area, its not available.

I've been told Homebase stock 'pure ammonia'... for some strange reason I find it easier to get from the 'local, small hardware store', rather than the larger 'superstore'... at least a bottle will last you ages!
