My goldfish tank is having nitrIte problems.. they are not gasping for air at the top of the tank but they are reathign heavy... the reading is 2ppm. :-( :-( poor guys.. what should I do besides a water change? I can't add salt.. my plants will all die..

you can add bactinettes, if in the UK/europe
or bio-spira if in the us/canada

this is live bacteria that will breakdown the no2.

If you can't get the products Wolf recomended, do a partial water change, and add 1 tablespoon of salt for every 5 gallons. This helps make the nitrite less toxic.

What are your ammonia readings in the tank? Also, how large is the tank?

hey.. what is with the Gaia avi in your avi? :/

also, it is a 55 gallon goldfish tank. It has an ammonia reading of 0 ppm.. it always does... I jsut did a water Change and it is at .50 now.. it was at 1ppm. anyway, I think it might have been because I took a few noddles form the tank and ut them in my tropical filter.. but it was only like 7 noodles.

my avi was just one of those create your own avi things, and i think its cute.

Anyways, that is possibly the cause of the spike. I would add some salt, goldies can actually handle a higher concentration than tropicals. That hsould help them out.
