I have a sand substrate in my 140g tank. When I do water changes in my other sand tank, it is really easy as I just suck all the crap off the sand. However in the big tank, I have 3 eartheaters, and an Oscar who loves lying on the sand and the seeing how much he can kick up by flapping his body as hard as he can!!!
All this sifting causes all the poo etc. to just mix in with the sand and that means when I do water changes i get very little actual dirt out of the tank. Is this going to cause me problems? I have tested the water and all the results are fine, I'm just concerned about the future!!

The earth eaters turning the sand over will prevent any problems, the normal problem with crap getting stuck in sand is anerobic bacteria but with oxygen getting into the sand the anerobic bacteria wont be able to form. Regular water changes will stop pH crash that is assosiated with organic decay and remove any excess nitrates.
