This ? is about my goldfish, i have 2 fantails and an oranda. 1 of the fantails developed what i was told was an internal bacterial infection, by the time i had got to lfs to get treatment this so called internal infectiion had spread to my oranda.

They both got the symptoms in the same place,at the start of their tails. I never got time to quarintine the 1st fish b4 it spread so i added the treatment to the tank they are in.

I am not sure if this problem is internal or not so any advice would be greatfull.

Symptoms:-

A red almost like a dye in the fins, blending into a whitish colour

can you give us some more details, tank size, water stats, maintenance routine etc etc etc

can you get a pic of the infected area on the fish?

The tank is a 40 ltr, small i know but they will be moved. The fish are'nt that old yet.
water is changed twice a wk(25%) with a dechlorinater added. Not sure of the exact stats, lfs told me there was a little nitrite but the rest were fine.

Cant get a pick till l8r, not at home at the mo

if there's any nitrite this will be very dangerous and undoubtedly what's causing the illness.

was the tank cycled before adding fish? have a read of this topic which will help you understand all the different levels and why we need to test for them.

we're gonna need to know for definate what your stats for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are, if you don't have your own test kit can you take some water to the lfs for testing, write down the exact readings (i.e. not just 'a little bit' or 'fine' but 0.25ppm or 1ppm) and post them back here.
