Not Sure If This Is Emergency But Theres Something Up With My Fish

I have put a thread over in the other room, but need advice asap so thought i would try here as well

http://www.fishforums.net/First-Problem-wi...os-t201474.html
Snails came in with the plants.
Loss of color in neon tetras-most likely neon tetra disease-incurable.
What kind of sucker fish? Some get very aggressive other get over 12 inches.
No I dont think you should complain about the plants, it happens all the time and you need to wash and isolate the plants anyway before adding them.
Please fill out the form posted at the top of the emrgency section so we can further help you.

i can fill in the form at the top tomorrow once i have had my water tested, when i had my plants i was told they were fine to go into tank, wasnt told to wash them etc

I read about neon tetra disease before posting this and the only symptom they seem to have is the colour loss, one of them appears to be the 'bully' rather than shy away from the school. ive only had these a few days so is it something i have/havent done that has caused it or could they have been infected when i bought them? they are still swimmming about just like they were in store.

1. Water parameters. (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, PH, temp', Hardness etc)
Unknown at the moment

2. A full description of the fishes symptoms.
Loss of colour in neon tetras red area, and speckled looking ed section on my cardinal tetra

3. How often you do water changes and how much.
As of yet i havent had a water change, i set up a fishless cycle 2 weeks ago and added fish just under a week ago so i was gonna do a water change on the weekend

4. Any chemicals and treatments you add to the water.
I have added stress zyme and stress coat to the water along with a food for my plants

5. What tank mates are in the tank.
2 neon tetra, 2 cardinal tetra, 2 diamond headed tetra and a small suckerfish (have a photo of him here http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1051/1276.../262391604.jpg)

6. Tank size.
43 litre (approx 10-11 gallon)

7. Finally Have you recently added any new fish?
All of the fish are recently added, the tetra on saturday and the suckerfish on sunday

2 weeks for a complete cycle is pretty fast. Were both ammonia and nitrites dropping to zero after 12 hours? Also, once that is happening and you know you're cycled then, you should do a huge water change do bring down the nitrAtes... So my guess is maybe the neons - not a hardy fish - are responding to some water quality issues.

I agree with christine reply.

water parameters (using api freshwater master test kit)
ph - (found this one hard to interpret but i think its approx 7.2)
high range ph - <7.4
ammonia - <0.25ppm
nitrate - <5ppm
nitrite - 0.25 - 0.5ppm
temp - 24.5

Too much ammonia and nitrite, tank is not cycled, this'll be contributing to any fish issues you have....
But i'm not good on cycling topics just thought i'd mention that your PH is a bit high for tetras and if by suckermouth you mean a pleco, again too high.
Both species aren't what you'd consider 'hardy' (hate the word myself) fish, either way it'll probably result in worse health than would be expected in soft water....

germ is right, your tank isn't cycled

have a read of the link in my sig 'what's cycling?' which should explain what to do

thanks, where i said the readings were <5 etc its because the colour wasnt quite 0 but nowhere near as coloured as the next on the sheet

also took some water with me when i went to buy my test kit to have it test in store, and they reckoned according to their readings the water was fine, slightly acidic if anything, but thats because of the wood in there

any reading that isn't clearly 0 for ammonia and nitrite is dangerous. even 0.0000001 can harm your fish.

i'll re-iterate your tank is not cycled and the water is dangerous, this is causing illness in your fish. so you need to get it cycled asap. the link i directed you to before will tell you how to do this.

unfortunately the lfs is there to make money from you, they will sell you fish when they know your water isn;t fine, because when they die you'll go back and buy more. sad but true. we are here in our own time giving advice for free because we care for the welfare of the fish. up to you who you believe

Yep heed the wise words of wiggledom for she is a cycling guru...
:D
Theres no way your PH is 7.2 plus but also slightly acidic, if its your LFS told you this then you already know they are lying.
There is endless posts on this site about LFS, the poor practices used in the pursuit of sales and suchlike. I'd pay no attention to them until you have enough knowledge to actually test their honesty through tricky questioning....

lol, i'll let you in on a secret.

never knowingly cycled a tank in my life, obviously they have cycled but i was unaware, just my fish kept dying and i didn't know why. never done a fishless cycle always cloned tanks since i had my first one. the one time i actually cycled a tank i made a complete mess of it and killed loads of fish. we all have to start somewhere.

i just try and help out so other people don't have their first experiences of fishkeeping tarnsihed as mine were by seemingly un-controllable deaths.

Wow!
Thats like hearing that father christmas doesn't exist...
I'm off to find a small hole to curl-up and weep uncontrollaby in :-(

I hadnt said i didnt believe you but i thought i would have my water checked there and check it myself as its something i have never done before, I have read your post on cycling, and had just carried out my first water change, will test and change every evening from now until i get 0 for the results.
