Hello again, I'm new here. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting this, but if it is wrong, I'll move it or something.

My betta Mr. Brightside seems to be having a slight case of fin rot. I noticed a small hole in his tail fin (he's a veil tail) and the fins aren't as even on the bottom as they used to be. Plus, the fin on top of his back appears to be decaying, like theres a string coming off of it. It's hard to explain, but it looks like it's deteriorating or something. I'm a bit worried about him. Will he be okay? What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

Bacterial finrot, stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

When you say a string coming off it do you mean a string of cotton.

If alot of the tail gone it dosnt sound good, but you will still need a bacterial med if you want to try and save the fish.

Whats your location.

What kind of bacterial med can I get? Will BettaFix do anything to help him?

Here are some pictures of what one of his fins look like. His tank needs to be cleaned. I'm going to do it first thing in the morning.

^^Sorry that last one is really big. I tried to re-size it, but Photobucket decided to not let me lol.

Whats your location.

Newburgh, NY.

Is the fish in a bowl or tank of its own i would treat with tetracycline but it will wipe the bacteria colony out in your filter.
Or maracyn one but you can use maracyn two as well with one..

Tetracycline
Manufacturer: Aquatronics
A broad-spectrum antibiotic used in the treatment of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacterial infections. For infections of fin and tail rot, frayed fins, popeye, inflamed gills, mouth and body open sores/ulcers, livebearer disease, dropsy, Columnaris, and secondary infections such as fungal. Specific for livebearers and goldfish. Aerate the aquarium well when using. Useful for the control of some common bacterial diseases, including Aeromonias and Pseudomonas Genera and the Mysobacterial group.

Maracyn
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for gram-positive bacterial infections. For infections of columnaris (body fungus), fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, and secondary infections.
Active ingredient: Erythromycin.

Maracyn–Two
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for internal or external gram negative bacterial infections which can even be absorbed through the skin. Effective treatment of fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, dropsy (swollen body, protruding scales), septicemia (bleeding or red streaks on the body), secondary and internal infections. Effective even when fish won't eat.
Active ingredient: Mincycline hydrochlor.

Where can I get these medications? I don't think the local pet store carries those. And as far as I know, there's no PetSmart or Petco nearby. Will he be okay? Is he dying?

You can buy them online but it might be to late, try some salt for now, one tablespoon to every 5gal, but best to add it gradually.
I would also add that bettafix for now, till you can find the meds, sorry don't live in the states so it hard to say where you can find the meds.
Do a thread in tropical chit chat.

Too late? How long until there's nothing I can do? I want to help him in any way possible.

Don't know how good the med is as we can't buy it over here i think, but i think its just like melafix myself.
You really need a stronger bacterial med like maracyn.

Good water quality and the salt might help, but once finrot has progressed you need stronger meds.

To be honest he dosn't look to bad to me, though pics can be deceiving, it depends on the fish and its immune system to fight deasease off.

I already have BettaFix, so I'm going to try that when I change his water tomorrow morning. I hope it helps him, I hate seeing him sick. However, he still has interest in food, so that's a good thing I guess.

Hows the fish doing.
