I recently got a new betta and, he's swimming normally, and acting normal.. it's just that on the area a little before his tail fin, there are 3 spots sticking up from his body.
I can't tell if they're scales that might've rubbed up/off from him looking around his tank, or if they're white fluffy spots (his body is light colored).
If it is something other than his scales... what sort of medication should I use?
I'm using bio-spira on their tank to hopefully cycle it (I don't think it's working though).. and don't have a spare tank atm.. so something that won't harm the bacteria would be nice if possible.

Ammonia is between 0.25-0.50
Nitrite is 0
Nitrate is at 5.0

tank is heated & there's plenty of air...

So yep... any help would be appreciated :D
AS I said before, he's not flicking, or rubbing on anything, but after looking at him closer, it doesn't appear to be scales. Looks more like debris or something that's stuck to his body.

Hm, I'd definately do a partial water change to get that ammonia down.

Not sure if that could be causing this, but it will reduce stress.

As long as he's acting normal, I would wait and see. If he doesn't act sick, I wouldn't treat him with anything just yet.

Can you load a pic up of the sick fish it might help.

Hrmmm.. it's not there any longer... I think it was just debris from something... probably the white gunky crap that keeps appearing on my heater.. *SIGH*
I swear my fish are going to give me an ulcer worrying about them so much.

Glad it was nothing serious then.

Alrighty... so the things on his body are gone, but now he has something on his tail. I really want to remove whatever it is b/c it's been there all day.
I can't tell if it's a parasite or not, but it's definitely attached to his tail.
Could I tweeze them off? If so... how exactly would I go about doing that? I'd hate for him to wriggle around everywhere and me ending up ripping his tail off or something

Here are some really bad pics of wht I'm talking about. I know you can't tell what they are, but you can at least see where they're at.
He's still not acting like anything is wrong.. no flicking and whatnot, but these things whatever it is is really starting to worry me since they've been there for most of the day.

2nd pic I couldn't tell where the 2nd one is so just circled the one.

I would not tweese anything off yet. If done improperly, it could lead to worse secondary problems like infections.

Have you done the water change yet?

No water change yet....I'm trying to see if the BS is working or not. I'm keeping an eye on the ammonia though.

ANYWHO.... it seems as though I was freaking over nothing b/c I woke today to find that whatever was attached to his tail is now gone. AS I said before.. these fish are going to give me an ulcer worrying so much!
But then again I guess I do jump the gun a bit.
I just don't want to not freak out and then something bad happens b/c I didn't do anything... ya know?

It's my understanding that the BioSpira is suppose to work "overnight". If you still have ammonia, I'd say it's not working. Besides, there's not going to be much bacteria in the water column anyway. I would do a water change as soon as possible to get that ammonia down. It is probably causing stress to the fish.
