Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I am concerned about my fish, they have white spots on the fins and some of my fish have white spots on their body as well. I've read about Ich and I think that's what my fish have. I tried to get a good shot of the spots, and this is the best shot that I could get:

The spots on the fin aren't that accentuated, but it's much more visible up close. Sometimes I see my fish quickly turning and swimming like it has been bitten by something, which I'm assuming is the Ich hurting it. So do my fish have Ich or is this something else? Thank you!

Yes that is ich. When you see your fish dart around this is called flicking. They are trying to get rid of the parasite. You want to find a ich medication as soon as you can, and be sure to treat the whole tank. When treating be sure to remove carbon from your filter as carbon takes the medication out of the tank.

:shifty: ...i'm pretty sure that's called darting. when they throw their bodies against objects in the tank to scratch themselves is flicking

The object of forums is to help people out. Not go around and make fun of them! :D :D

Thanks for the replies guys. So I take out the carbon media but not the biological media that I have at the top of my AquaClear? The biological media has the beneficial bacteria.

Also, I've read that Ich go through three steps, and that the medication is only useful during the part where they sink to the bottom. Is there any way to make the Ich get off the fish instead of raising the tank temperature? Thanks in advance.

There are many products out there that help to cure ich. There is Super Ich Cure by API, Ich Clear by Jungle, and many many more products out there. You will need to go to your LFS (local fish store) and see what they have avaliable.

Yeah, I used the Super Ick Cure from API. I took out the Activated Carbon but kept my Biological Boosting Media (white pebbles in a bag). Should I take out that too? That media converts the Ammonia to Nitrite, and Nitrite to Nitrate.

The spots have come off the fish, and it's working pretty well so far.
