kH: this is where i am confused, compared on a PH chart it reads 6.0
gH: also not sure on this as i followed the instructions and after adding 35 drops to the test tube it has stayed yellow and not turned green.

Could someone please explain more about the KH and GH readings

I must admit that i dont usually test the water as i never have any illness nor problems and usually find it best left alone.

KH & GH are not normally read on a colour chart. They go by how many drops of indicator it takes to make the sample change colour. Then the number of drops is multiplied by a number to give you the approximate general or carbonate hardness of the water. Check the directions on the packet.
You shouldn't really be adding any fish while you have an ammonia or nitrite reading.

is the tank cycled as those ammonia and nitrite reading should be zero if its fully cycled ? id be doing some quite large water changes if i was you to get the levels down to a safe level before you start loosing fish

didnt see "The tank has been set up for over 2 1/2 years with no problems." there must be something to cause the ammonia and nitrite reading to go up

Ammonia and Nitrite should always be Zero in a cycled well stocked tank. The fact that your water looks mirky and there are readings on both is down to the poor selection of fish in a smallish tank. Severums grow to 12" each, Plec is the same, Syno could be one of hundreds so until you ID it, it could be a monster as well, the Hybrid Parrot fish again is a largish fish....so all this is constituting to poor water.

If it were my tank id either return all the new fish, and get a much larger tank or return the new fish and add an extra filter. You tank is only going to get worse as you add more and more poorly chosen fish it

Thanks for the replys :thanks:

I have just bought another filter and i am going to do the weekly maintanence this afternoon and then re-test the water. The water looks murky due to poor lighting and using the camera on my phone.

Once again thanks for all your help :good:

Thinking of the fish here... your tank is way too small for the fish you have! The plec looks like a 'common' plec and will grow some more.. the severums are aggressive and will grow very large, and so should the Parrot fish... 150 litres is no way near big enough to provide territories or cope with the waste your fish will produce. I can only IMHO advise you to get a much, much bigger tank or rehome the fish...
Soz, just my opinion
:/
