My tank has white spot again!

I know how to treat it cos we've had it before but I'm just so annoyed :/

aw hun I feel for you :(
I know that they are in good hands and will be well cared for!

hi there, some may disagree with me, but I generally dose the tank with a quarter of the medication on a monthly basis............just believe prevention is better than cure. Hope u don't have any fatalities

Thanks guys, I think I started treating quite early so fingers crossed!

I would not recommend that. I don't like to add chemicals or meds if I don't have to.

My prevention is 2 water changes a week, not over-feeding, and stable temps.

What are you treating it with Sunflower? And for how long? And what temp are you at? :dunno:

Also, how long ago did you have it last? :dunno:

I was under the impression that fish get ich from being stressed out, which lowers their immune systems. I could be wrong but so far I've had one tiny case of ich that cleared up in a two days, so maybe not. If it is caused by stress, then maybe something else is up with your tank.

My last white spots vanished about 4 weeks ago and I continued treating for a week afterwards.

I'm using king british white spot control (which I used last time)

My temperature is stable, I'm only feeding a little once a day and I do weekly water changes of between 1/4 and 1/3

Unfortunately meds are toxic to fishes and much more terrible: parasites and bacteria will become resistant those medicines. You need to use medicines only when you're sure what you're doing: being sure that you use right medicine and use it corretly.

You are absolutely right. Fish becomes sick when its immune system fails - it fails if fish is kept wrong water values (fish losts lot of energy e.g. when trying to keep osmotic pressure correct), fed by wrong food or food with lack of vitamins etc or envinronment is just stressful - wrong tank mates etc... Or all together.

People have realize that "water is not just water" - differend kind of fishes live differend kind of places. Sure they are kept in same tank in stores but it doesn't mean that you can do it too.

Hey chill guys, the fish I have are both peaceful community fish and are fine to be together. I know water is not just water and know all about the conditions that my fish need to be kept under.

Adding new tank mates can be a stressful time for the little fishes and I suspect this may be where it's come from.

I was never really asking for advice (or I'd have posted under emergencies!) as I am well capeable of treating this condition, I was just brassed off and was looking for some sympathy!

Thanks! :D

Poor sun :/

Good luck with the ich this time. You're a pro now, so I'm sure it'll be cleared up in no time

Thanks cc,

I'm sure it'll be OK. Spots seem to have cleared already!

Hi sunflower :)

Well, you certainly have my sympathy. Treating sick fish is just about the worst part of this hobby, IMHO.

If you added new fish, perhaps they were infected and brought the disease with them. Since ich is often brought on by a temperature drop, it's always possible that this happened while they were in transit from the distributor. In that case, your healthy fish could become infected too.

Good luck and I hope they are all well soon! :D

Hi sunflower you have my sympathy I know what it is like to keep getting the same disease again and again. As you will find out everyone has different ways to treat ich. I think a lot of people was just trying to tell you thier way.

Thanks everyone, it's looking much better already. Need to rememebr to keep treating for a while though, make sure it's gone completely.
