Ok, I think something odd is going on with my CO2.

I've tried both home mixes I found on this forum:

2 cups sugar
1 table spoon yeast
fill with tepid water

watch bubbles after few minutes

and:

400g sugar
2 teaspoon yeast
4 teaspoon bi-carb soda
1.6L tepid water

Neither are producing results.

Some more info:

Im using Granulated Sugar of the common kitchen kind and fast action dried yeast (fast action being the only kind i could find) tepid water has been exactly that - just warm, say a bit more than room temp? maybe 25C-30C.

Any suggestions?

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say is wrong with it?

In any case, check to make sure that all of your seals are in fact airtight and that you don't have a leak...

im saying neither option appears to produce gas of any volume. no leaks at all...

As pseud said leaks are common , especially on the bottle top, silicone tubing doesnt adhere to glue very well. what sort of conection are you using?
It could be just a bad batch of yeast too, try a different type . Tescos sell 125g Allinson dried active yeast which is pretty good or try a home brew shop and try and find wine or champagne yeast (more expensive but better results)

1 tablespoon is a lot of yeast also... probably 3 times too much. Are you sure you don't mean teaspoon?

Like RYO said, coule be bad yeast, try a different brand. Or try mixing the yeast in a small amount of water making sure it dissolved before adding it into the bottle with the sugar solution. It may help. Then wait for an hour or two. You need to give time to allow the co2 to start being produced and the pressure to build up.

I just realised you said 'watch bubbles after few minutes'. How long have you waited exactly and just left the system all connected?

been hunting around the net a bit while at work. First of all, stuck the bottle in my curing bucket (a bucket of water with a 25W heater set to the same temp as the tank for doing water changes) to keep it warm and the yeast reacting. secondly, another site suggested only puting in a little water and mixing the sugar in well, then filling to the top of the label with water that is 1 part boiling to 2 parts cold.

seals are cool though.

and i get high sniffing the bottle.... :p

If you pour boiling water on it you will kill the yeast.

Edit: Double Post. Stupid connection.

its why its 1part boiling to 2 parts cold.

eg, 1 litre boiling, 2 litres cold, mix the two waters and add. and trust me, cold here is very very cold - about 2C/36F at the moment.

edit: cold meaning from the cold tap...
