first question, how many imp gallons in a 24x12x12ins tank please.

i have just bought another little tank included was internal filter/heater/substrate/and a couple of ornaments.

how do i steralise everything so nothing will be carried over.??.

can i cycle the tank with part water and spare filter from my cycled tank.?

i have just recently cleared a breakout of whitespot/ich from this tank but how can i be sure that i wont transfer desease if any,
into new tank.

would be most gratefull for comments.

thanks kevin.

gallons of the tank, not sure...

steralizing things, best bet is boiling water, a good scrubbing then more boiling water...

you can cycle your tank with a filter from an already cycled tank, this instantly cycles the tank, however I'd wait for a day or so to add fish...

To make sure the whitespot is gone, best bet is to boil everything, gravel, decorations even fake plants (although not for too long, they could melt)... for the tank I'd say extremly hot water... same goes for the filter and heater and anything else in the tank that needs plugged in (don't wash the plug oviously, unless part of the cord was under the water, then you can wash that part... BUT NOT THE PLUG)...

That's about all I can say... check google for a tank capacity calculator...

Have to say that using boiling or extremely hot water in your tank is a bad idea, applying a hot or cold shock to glass is likely to make it shatter or crack! Try using a mild chlorine only bleach solution instead, rinse very well and keep your tank out in the sun for a few days if you can to get rid of any excess chlorine.

thanks tessla for your advice.
would the steraliser that you use for babys bottles be any good ? or would it be to strong.

thanks simon for that.

To prevent thermally shocking the glass (cracking it), just dont' add boiling water to cold glass. You'd need to work up to near boiling water in a couple steps.

Boiling water isn't what hurts glass, it's the sudden temperature change.
