Hello everyone,

I have a 55 gallon tank. It has been setup for a good while now, a good 8 months. When I first started the tank I went though the cycling of it, and checking all the levels and just letting it go... then I added fish slowly. I started with guppies, which had babies and only one survived. Then I added 6 tetra. After the levels adjusted I added mickey plattties. The after the levels adjusted I added a catfish, and dinos, then I added glo fish and hockey stick fish.... then I added two gouramis.... I had 27 fish in the tank... So about 2 weeks ago, fish started dying... First my baby guppy died, then the two adult guppies died... After these three died within three days of each other, I noticed white stuff growing on the bottom and that it was starting to grow on the fish, so I did research I came to the conclusion that it was either a parasite or fungus, so I went to the store and bought treatment for both. I bought those tablets that fizz and disolve, in addition to those I added salt to the aquairum per the bottle of salt directions. So this turned the water green and blue and all the shades in between. after only a couple of hours all the white stuff on the fish themselves was gone and by the next day all the white stuff on the bottom of the tank was gone too.

Several days ago I started lossing fish again, I lost all of my glo fish, and today I lost my last hockey stick fish and a mickey platty.

All levels are fine, ammonia is zero, nitrate and nitrite are both fine, ph has not changed since I started the tank. There is no more white stuff anywhere in the tank. What I am doing wrong? Any advice?

Thanks Summer

First off, welcome to the forum. Look online for the common and/or scientific names of your fish, as pet stores sell fish under different names. I doubt it was a common fish disease called "ick" or "ich" because you said that the white stuff dissappeared within a few hours. So, it was probably a disease or parasitic infection of the fish. What fish are left?

Oh yeah, and pictures of the fish and/or diseases would help A LOT! :D

Could you also say what the symptoms of the fish were before they died.
Were they gasping at the surface?
Did they get bloated at all?
Did they become lethargic and just sit in one spot of the tank all day?
Any heavy breathing or inflammed/pale gills?

I know you said the levels are fine but it would be really good to get those numbers up just to rule anything out!!

Also what temperature do you keep the tank at?
How often do you change the water?
Do you use an air stone?

Could you also give us the names of the medication you used?

A lot of questions!!! But it all helps to figure out what is going on.

How are your fish doing now?
