Hi All

Great forum ,have had a good read and picked up a lot however after a few searches I have question I was hoping you could help with.

I'm picking up a 125 litre tank ,my second tank as I currently have a 35 litre which has a small selection of Danio's and Tetra's in it,the smaller tank was initially bought to teach my kids how to properly look after pets but it's become rather an addiction and the tank is now my turf which the kids only get to observe at a safe distance .

Anyhoo I have rather limited space and was hoping to put the larger tank in my conservatory, the problem with this being that the ambient room temp in there can vary massivly depending on the weather , I Live in Scotland (Edinburgh) and we have harsh winters where the temp in the room can be a couple of degrees above zero ,in summer the room can be uncomfortably warm ,there will of course be a capable heater in the tank but my thinking is that the heat may be the problem and I should re-think where I put the tank.

Will the water temp jump to unsafe levels ? and would it be possible to keep the tank safe with care or should I just find somewhere with a more stable room temp.It may be the difference in whether I can use the tank or store it for later use.

Thanks in advance

A big issue with having your tank in the conservatory Dskize is not only temperature, but algae. If your tank is in direct sunlight all day algae growth will be big, and no matter how much you clean it, it will always come back!
I recommend keeping the tank in another room, where it is out of direct sunlight.

Yeh I wondered about that one,it's not really a standard conservatory more a room with lots of windows, and the ceiling isn't glass although it does let a lot of light in, it's a kind of smoked perspex plus I can draw the blinds and I don't think it would get much more natural light than your average bedroom however It would stay light all day so it might be a bigger problem than I thought.

My issue would be it would get too hot in the summer. My boyfriend has his tank in sunlight in a south facing room and it was up to 26 celsius the other day (no heater). My tanks in a north facing room have increased about 4degrees.

If you are worried about the tank getting cold then add a heater (with thermostat) and it won't turn on unless the temperature of the water falls below the setting.
