hi

i am looking for non-fish tankmates for my fish. the aquariums are listed in my sig and in my info so please feel free to look there.

any info and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

:D

possibly fresh water crab-research first as I know nothing about suitability- if your keeping snails possibly it would be okay as both like calcium and hard water i believe for their shells.

i wouldnt get a crab because your fish are too small and they might get eaten. what about an african dwarf frog or some shrimp?

i was thinking about an african dwarf frog but i really don't know. my main concern is being sold an african clawed frog by mistake  . that wouldn't be good at all. also if i get shrimp i could probably only get a couple and would they have territorial issues with the cory cats i have?

About a month ago i put a dwarf aqautic frog into my tank and its doing awesome... my tank is mostly platies, mollies, and a couple tetras. As i said hes doing great with both shrimp pellets and frozen brine shrimp. They are some of the funnest things to watch. They get into the funniest spots on the plants and rocks and such.

I definately reccomend one if you feel it will be compatible with your tank.

i would get a red clawed crab..

ive never bothers with the fish

WE have ghost shrimp and other small brown ones in our tropical and coldwater tanks. The ghost shrimp are in with the tropical and there is a proper wee cory village in there there does not seem to be any territorial issues at all and they all seem to keep themselve to themselves and the coldwater ones live with 2 dojo Loaches which has never been a problem either! So shrimps are good non fish tank mates in my opinion and great clean up crews only thing is you wont see them much!

We had 2 small red clawed crabs in the big tropical tank which have decided to live in the bottom of the filter (its a dewel tank withthe built in filter) they appear to have bred and we occasionally see one or two out and about but not often. but they dont bother with the fish either. They are in with our cories too and some of them are really small.

We did have a couple of frogs 2 clawed ones (didnt realise how big they got at the time) but they died before they got very big and a small dwarf frog who was great but didnt last longer than maybe 8 months. I loved the frogs but dont think the tank was best for them dont know why.

Add things like crabs, crayfish and large shrimp at your own peril! Anything with claws is very likely to catch and eat any fish it can, i have had personal experience of this with redclaw crabs blue lobsters (crayfish) and giant shrimps.
Some people may have had success keeping clawed inverts and fish together, many more have not.

There are many algea and filter feeding shrimps available now which are safe for any community tank. Look for bamboo shrimp, mole shrimp, ammano shrimp and camroon armoured shrimps.

I've kept red claw crabs in community tanks before quite happily, but I think I'd be wary of trying any clawed invertebrate with Bettas, presuming they have long flowing tails.

You might be better as CFC says to stick with safer non-clawed shrimp. I've got Amano in my planted tank and they don't cause any hassle with any livestock, although not the most colourful.
