Thanks for looking at my question.

I have a fish tank set-up at my office. Occationally, for whatever reason, the power goes out on the weekend.

I have a red sea nano filter for my mini-bow 2.5 gallon tank. When the filter is unplugged, the water dumps out of the filter. When the filter is plugged back in, the filter gurgles and it will not suction up water into the filter unless i take some water and pour it into the filter. than it starts to filter again. (edit: i just thought of this, but is it because the extender /suction /leg is extended all the way? if I took out a section of the leg, would the filter suction better?)

Does anyone know of a surge protector that, once the power is shut off, it stays off? I don't want to set the office on fire because my filter couldn't sputter enough water back into it's holding tank.

any suggestions are welcomed (though I don't want to shut off my filter every evening and every weekend. i don't think the tank will stay clean enough)

and another question, slightly off topic.

does any one use a heat regulator along with their aquarium heater? i useto use one when i had lepord geckos, and i wanted to know if this help prevent any accidents (you know, fish fries, fires, ect ect)

here is the heater i intend to buy

but if you have a better suggestion or a regulator, please lemme know.

I have the same filter you are talking about on the same tank setup. I know it's a pain for those to get started again, not sure how taking that one extender tube out would work. However there are pattery powered pumps, maybe you would be able to use that somehow for your filter. Also be sure that the water level on your tank is up to the water level the filter needs, maybe this would help in it restarting better. You could also try a sponge type filter setup if you have no other choice. This would be fine when your power shuts off and on at work.

As for your heater, my friend has that same type you are looking at. They are a bit dangerous as the temperature went from 70 in his tank to 82 within a less then 24 hour period. So i suggest looking at a few of the options below.

Tetra Whisper Heater (I have this heater the 2-15gallon one in my 2.5 gallon tank and it works great. They are preset so there are no worries)

Best of Luck! :fish: :fish:

Thanks for responding

What i mean by the extender tube.. there are 3 pieces to this tube, the one that hooks into the actual filter and the other two that join together so the filter sweeps from the bottom of the tank. do you think by removing the two extenders and using the basic would help?

Does your filter just dump the water if you unplug it (it takes about a minute)

By the way, what the heck is that circular gray plastic part for (its a solid, and looks like a mini water bottle cap)?

I will also check the water line tomorrow.

What do you mean by a sponge filter (the filter that came with the tank is total junk)? doesn't the nano use the sponge filter to begin with?

can you show me an example of a battery powered pump?

I will check out that heater.

THANKS!

Yep, it does that everytime I go to clean the tank or i need to clean out that carbon sponge which gets dirty quite quickly.
Everytime I go to restart the filter I always have to get a cup of water and dump it in the filter in the box in the back there.

You mean the part under the filter? If soo.....
I once wondered that too! However if you put the filter on your tank and then start to turn that cap around. It will soon rest against the back of your tank. It helps lift the filter up so it is leve on the tank, so that it is not hanging back on an angle. :good:

Take a look at the link below. It has a sponge filter and pictures and all those good things!!

can you show me an example of a battery powered pump?
Click here!! The first 4 pictures/links on that page when you open it are battery powered pumps!
