i bought the above skimmer yesterday and have set it up with the water level just slightly below the o ring. i am happy enogh about the operation of the skimmer (its my first one so dont know any better) except for one thing. it's very noisy! and its in my living room where we watch tv so i'm gonna have to do something about it! any suggestions or hints as to how make it less noisy? any other hints about general setup of this skimmer for best performance? i've a rekord 120 tank (about 33gal). i switched from freshwater to marine about 4 weeks ago. i have 2 clownfish (in 2 days ago) and some mollies (4 adult, 4 young). i realise there might not be much to skim yet.

any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

was just going to set it on timer for at night time, would this be ok?

how quickly should the collection cup fill if its working correctly? i know it depends on the tank but a rough idea would be good

swear the instruction book tells me nothing!!!

Well, I have no experience with that model skimmer. What usually causes skimmers to be too loud are clogged impellers or allowing too much air into the powerhead... You should be adjusting bubble formation and output flowrate so that your cup fills up about every 2-5 daysNever adjust your skimmer immediately after you've had your hands in the tank. The oils on your fingers temporarily alter the way a skimmer functions and you can set yourself up wrong if you tweak it then. Allow a good hour after your hands have been in there before you tweak anything to ensure the skimmer is back near equillibrium

i have that skimmer and mine is pretty noisy, do you have the air inlet plugged into the waste cup? that quietened mine down a bit, failing that get one of those plastic air flow adjusters that you get with powerheads and pop that in the end of the airline.

i do have to say i am pretty underwhelmed by the red sea skimmer, for the money i was expecting something a little better. its gonna get swaped for a TMC V2 200 soon.

yea the air inlet is plugged into the collection cup but its still very noisy! theres meant to be a way of fixing them but i dont know it. anyone know?

there is a small bodge it job you can do with some PVC pipe about 4". if you cut 2 discs of plastic the same DIA as the PVC pipe your using, drill a hole in 1 of the discs large enough for the airline of your skimmer to fit through.
silicone/glue the disc onto the PVC pipe, and put pin holes in the other disc and silicone/glue it to the other end of the PVC pipe.
insert your air line and hey presto (fingers crossed) silence!

did this work for you? i've actually just left the skimmer off as last few days due to the noise level, navarre said i a post somewhere else that he knew how to fix it butt he didnt reply to my email askin him how!
