I have resolved the issue with my durso pipe and made a baffle this is virtualy silent the only noise from the tank is from the sump where air enters the sump and bubbles in the sump can this be muffled at all?

Thanks in advace Morri

Try shortening the length of the pipe so that its just at surface of the water. Then put an elbow, or better yet, a tee piece on the end. I had the gulping noise until I did this.

Thanks AK77 I have done a little research and basically thats what everyone else has said so I have ordered the bits to make a T piece type spray bar will post piccies and results once its done ;)

No problem bud :good:

Ironically, I normally have a noisey outlet .. as my girlfriend would testify too

Hehe similar problem here but thats just the wife ;)

I can confirm that adding a home made T bar spray bar has silenced I still have small surface bubbles but no big bubbles

I added a check valve to my pump today. Because the snail crawled over the downpipe and nearly flooded my bedroom, I turn the sump pump off at night, until I get around to making a permanent barrier / solution. Reason for the check valve is so that the water won't drain back down the return outlet, thereby lowering the DT water level and making the other outlet noisey.

Since I've added it, its REAAAAAAAALLY quitened down my durso. I think mine is actually too small for the amount of water that was going through it. The check valve has definitely decreased the flow from the pump, which is probably doing about 4x the tank volume now... so its perfect!

What size pump do you have and what diameter is your downpipe?

I have 20mm down pipe non durso its basically a capped pipe with holes all the way down will post a piccy tommorrow

this drops into a Y piece with 2 x 19mm 3/4" plastic pipe on it one pipe goes straight into the refegium the other has a tap on which goes into skimmer compartment the tap controls flow between the refegium and skimmer works well quiet ish now cant hear much at all once door is closed.

Using the pump you recommended this basically is perfect for the job. ;)

I forgot you are using the same pump as me lol :good:
