Noisy Fluval Edge Filter

Further to my original post regarding curing the noisy Fluval Edge filter, I followed the advice given by another subscriber on this forum and lubricated the rotor spindle with vasolene. It is now absolutely silent. my question now is can vaseline be harmful to fish or inverts. (no fish in tank at present)

No, it's not water soluble so it won't harm fish or inverts.

It will go brown and lumpy though, so you'll have to clean if off and replace it regularly; or, even better, get some silicone grease that won't 'go off' like the vaseline does.
