I have an aquamanta efx 1000 which I bought in December 2012, last night it started to make a humming rattling noise, so I decided to give the impeller a good clean and the noise has got worse. I have checked that everything is back as it should be and tightly fitted, also that there is no air in the filter by using the automatic priming function and gently moving the filter back and forth (for about an hour).
Does anyone have any ideas the noise is starting to drive me up the wall now lol

Check the impeller again, does it still have little black 'bung' on both ends? (one will be in the chamber/end of impeller and the other may be on the impeller chamber cover) but make sure both hold the impeller straight.

Also twist the star part of the impeller and make sure it doesn't keep spinning separate to the magnet part.

Give the filter a good sharp shake when running in case of air lock that it stubborn.

hmm... failing that, take the hood of the unit and impeller to the MA you bought it from and ask them to look at it/replace it if they cant fix it.

Thanks for your reply I took it apart again a checked everything as you said sadly with no enjoy, so as it was running I turned it up side down and up the right way a couple of times and it was some trapped air.
Thanks for your help

Take the impellor out again and lubricate it, use pure vaseline and spread a thin layer over the large magnetic part. Just try avoid getting it on the plastic blade.

Hi thanks for the reply the noise has gone now I am 90% sure it was trapped air. But I will keep that in mind if it starts again.

Dont know why but often seems to be some stubbon air locks with these filters... mind you, my eheim was way worse so ahh well, at least giving it a good shake is an easier solution! :)
