No Water Change Till 6 Mouths?

this link on ebay e.g shows a product which says you don't need to change your water till 6 mouths. i want to know if anyone has used this product which is tetra east balence

it's rubbish............

basically it dilutes nitrate, however water changes do a whole lot more than just reduce your nitrates.

it's OK for short term use, like if for example you did your back in and physically couldn't do water changes for a few weeks then it would be better to use that than do nothing, however it shouldn't be used long term as all sorts of stuff can build up in the water without you knowing.

might be ok for if you go on holiday for a week or two, and you have no one to do the water changes for you, other than that, I think doing water changes are essential for fish. I guess its like having clean fresh air for us to breathe, over some toxic air.

My fish are used to water changes and play in the flow from the hose pipe, but then again I do a water change every other day.

But as I said, if you were going on your jolly hols, and no one could do your water change, then I'd use the product over nothing.

I got given some of this free. I used it, but continued to do water changes anyway. I think it did have some small effect on the nitrate level. but it's not worth paying for in my opinion. I think what that ebay seller says about water changes being stressful is a load of rubbish.

Stressful on you, maybe. The fish should be fine with a little weekly disruption.

The stuff almost costs more than water changes, anyway. I use what I take out of the tank to water the lawn, so I don't spend much extra for my tanks.

Think of it like a product that says you can pour it in your cat's litter box and you won't have to scoop it for six months. You might be able to neutralize what the cat puts in the box, but it has to turn into something. Instead of six months worth of nitrate in the tank, you'll have six months worth of some other compound.

I've no reason to doubt that Easy Balance works, but i think its quite irresponsible of Tetra to market it as a substitute for water changes TBH because it clearly isn't.

It's one of many products aimed at lazy fishkeepers and claiming to cure a problem which doesn't really exist in order to get your money in their pocket.

I can't think of any reason why i would waste my hard earned cash on such a useless product when i could do a water change instead?
