So you guys said a senegal in my tank is a no-no, so would a ABF be ok. They get around 4" right or is it 6" and need some floating plants for cover. So if I keep my tank covered i know it has enough space in a 29 gallon but would it eat my guppies and harlequin rasboras even though they swim in the middle of the tank?

Thanks

Austin

A 29 gallon would, in my opinion, be big enough for one or two ABF. Not sure how much strain they put on your filtration, someone else can probably clarify here.

In my personal experience, the butterflies usually only go lower in the tank if they are scared or stressed. I've never had a fish lost to them, BUT when I kept them, I never had fish that were small enough to be eaten (smallest fish were medium sized tetras, like head-and-tail-lights and black skirts).

I'm guessing a full grown one would probably be picking off small guppies and rasboras as they go to the surface for food, as they often do at feeding time. Also make sure you have a very well covered tank if you want to try these, the little buggers are good jumpers.

Yup I'v got that figured out with the tank, thanks to pica nutalli if i upgrade my lighting. My rasboras are about 1.5" which I'm not sure if they are big enough or not as for guppies I only have one left and it's not going to live much longer so I can wait or maybe it won't eat it. Thanks for your opinion, anybody else have expierence ?

I, of course, do.

and I've kept one in a 10 with a glow lite tetra for a month harmlessly.
Then again, that glowlite also managed to live with a senegal in that 10g for a month without the ABF.

He's a very good and cool glow lite, and has a few "tricks" most fish wouldn't, so I wouldn't compare them pet say on that level, but I'd say feeding time could be dangerous. My glowlite stays at the bottom. But whatever comes to the surface to feed would be in danger.

Does anybody think a ABF will eat full grown guppies or harlequin rasboras if he is with them when he's young so he might be used to them? The rasboras and guppies don't go to the surface much but rather just let the flakes fall to the ground because of the angels.
