Having finally convinced my husband that a tank is a good idea and spent many hours weighing up what I would really like, what I could afford and what is reasonable for our current circumstances (likely to be moving house in the next year or two), I have finally jumped back in and bought myself a tank.

I've managed to get a great deal on a Juwel Rio 180 with cabinet and all the equipment, and will be collecting it from its current owner in a couple of weeks once I'm back from hols and she's finished transferring stock to her new tank.

The equipment is OK - Eheim Biofilter 200, Tetratec 200W heater, original Juwel lights - but the massive saving I've made by getting 2nd hand gives me some budget to replace some of these.

I really cannot wait to get started, even if it is with giving it a good scrub and looking at a tank of empty water for 6 weeks while it cycles.

Hubby kinds understands how excited I am but not really why...he says he now knows I feel when he starts talking to me about guitars  ...so wanted to share with people who would.

Once I get the tank home, I'll start a journal for anyone who's interested in following or has any advice to offer.

Thats awesome! I just wish I could convince my mom to change some things about our tank.. *sighs* 180 liters or gallons? Because if its gallons thats a *really* nice tank! :hyper:

Congrats! I remember how excited i was when i was able to get my current tank.. It's a great feeling!

Just wanted to mention that if the current owner is nice enough, they might give you some of their used filter media to jump start your tank's cycle. just a thought! :)

Yeah, no one I know IRL understands how excited I get just watching my Loaches shoal around the tank. Or the two male Cherry Barbs "dance" at each other. :sigh:

It really is exciting! Can't wait to see pics of your set up!

The tank is currently up and running, and I have asked her to move the filter to her other tank to keep the media good. Hopefully this will be a nice wee kick-start for the cycle and I can shorten it by a few weeks.

Congrats on the tank. My largest tank at the moment is a Rio 180 - they're great. :good:
