In another post I got some help for a bout of Columnaris in my fish tank. I used erythromicin and melafix/pimafix to get rid of the columnaris (I did lose one fish who was too far gone). It appears as though the medication killed my beneficial bacteria because my ammonia is not yellow (API liquids). My nitrites are still 0 and the pH is 7.5. I just did a 30% water change tonight and a 25% water change yesterday.

Now I said that my ammonia is not yellow but I cannot really match it to any of the greens on the chart. I think it is .5 but the color is just not a great match. It has been 5-6 days and still no nitrites... Is my tank cycling after the meds or is my Seachem Prime throwing off my ammonia reading? I WANT TO ADD MORE FISH!!!

The fish all seem healthy and happy. Serpae tetras and juli cories. I am 95 days into fish keeping and it has been a struggle.

How do any of these fish live in the wild?

Thanks for the overwhelming response. :shout: I emailed Seachem with my question about Prime and I am going in the next day or to to get biospira. At this point it can't hurt. I'll let you know how it works for me. I think my ammonia is 1ppm. I'll check it again tomorrow.

You have used an antibiotic and they can wipe the benefical bacteria out completely.
Just water changes, and increase aeration in the tank.
Good luck.
