I've just come home from work to find my second betta dead I've checked the water and all the usual things tem like temp etc and everythings fine but again another of my bettas has bit the dust!

Not a happy chappy cos I just can't work out what I'm doing wrong

He was on his own in a bowl with nothing to stress him out and was eating just fine so what could it be?

Well annoyin!

how often were you doing water changes?
were you treating fresh water with a tap water conditioner?
do you have a heter with a thermostat?
and room speayes/deoderants/fresh paint in the same room?

Changing water 1-2 times weekly

Using conditioner after changes

I was using a heat mat (like for with repitiles etc) with a thermometer and was hitting an even 24c

By Habit I don't use deodorants etc in my room from when I kept my spiders in my room.

Tis bloody annoyin like!

You use water conditioner after you do water changes?
And do you let the water match the temp in his tank already?
Have you given the de-chlorinator time to work?
Did you buy him from a reputable fish store? Or your local crappy pet store?

I too have had not much luck with bettas... have heater condition water had there own 22 liter tanks with filters ... feed shrimp blood worms and pellets.. and they still die

My friend gave me his betta that he had in a small 1 gallon aquarium. He had the betta for around 6months and gave it to me. I moved the betta to my 29 gallon tropical tank. Adjusted him to the water temp first of ofcourse.
After a month he got finrot and died. I was so sad and wondered if it would have been better to have left him in the one gallon. From my experience with the bettas I owned, they always did very well in a 5 gallon tank with regular water changes then in my 29gallon community tank. Do you have him in a community tank or is he by himself? Also did you sterilize the tank before you set it up for him? As stated in an earlier comment perhaps it's where you're getting the fish from?

Sometimes it just happens.
How long did you have him for?
Was he lively when you got him?
Was he pooping? Was he bloated at all?
Was he lively in his bowl?

I know it's so frustrating when your fish just seem to die for no reason or due to things out of your control. Don't give up though.

how big was his bowl? Like amunet says sometimes these things just happen, could be the supplier may not have the best quality fish, perhaps try buying your next betta from a different store?

Hey, I hear ya. I have had 5 crowntails so far and they just don't live very long for me. They tend to get deformed mouths as they grow and then cannot eat. I love them to bits but they are just not that hardy for me. But veiltails, I have not troubles with them at all. They are strong and sturdy. My newest type is a rountail dragon plakat, he is very young so will have to see how he does as he ages. Very different and beautiful.

I would love to get my hands on a halfmoon one but they just don't seem to available here. But you never know what appears next in the stores when you least expect it like my lates one listed above.

No breeders here where I live and other breeders far away will only ship via airline, $$$$$$$ not for just the enjoyment of these beautiful fish. But oneday I hope to find something different.

Don't give up though, they are beautiful fish. From my experience of keeping them they do alot better for me in 1gal tanks.

:)
