I've had my neon tetra's with my cory fish for about 6 months but I've never REALLY watched them eat.

Normally I break up 2-3 small tetrmin wafers for my cories and I stir 2 tetramin tropical crisps for my tetras.

I made sure I smashed the crips into tiny bits for my tetras for their little mouths and Just assumed that even though they "nibble" at the alge waffers they could not get enough food from them because the pieces where big and hard.

Nope

I fed my fish this morning and I watched my Tetra's gobble pieces of the waffers with no problem with my little cory fish trying to keep up before they ate all the food. :fun:

WHo would have thought these little fish would not only be greedy but have such Big mouths. OR maybe their mouths are not big but that they just now how to use them!

Lol :p I know what you mean! You know those catfish pellets? Well I have a half-grown zebra danio who eats them - only she swallows them whole... First time I saw her swimming around with the huge pellet sticking out of her tiny mouth I was quite worried - 5 seconds later it was gone :) She does it all the time now - is the only fish who'll eat everything in one bite in that small community tank :p Fish are quite surprising in what they can fit in those tiny mouths... I saw a platy eat a .5 inch fry once - it was half her size... and I've seen gourami fry swallow large bloodworms that are half their length and look like they can't possibly fit inside them...

My serpae tetras and head&tail light tetras work together to rip crickets to shreds, and then one or two of the 10 tetras gets a piece  My senegal bichirs can take down large crickets that are a bit bigger than their head

OT, but I just love the picture in your sig line. I love seahorses-they are so neat. The other day we went to the zoo to see Santa and they have a huge seahorse exhibit there. I got some pics-I might post them in the picture forum later.

edited to correct my bad spelling

Neon tetra's make me laugh going round the tank with food in there mouth bigger than them. , and baby fry with bloodworms that's funny.

Yeah, they are funny looking at my neons swimming with a piece of algae wafer in their mouths!

Gale: I'm glad you like my sig, I luv seahorses to so please post your pics! I'd luv to see them.
