No Flaring Betta?

I've yet to come across one, but yes, I would imagine it is possible there are some that cannot flare. Would be due to a genetic abnormality or injury. Possibly if they have some sort of gill disease also. And, of course, a fair percentage of females cannot flare. Not like the males do at any rate! I know alot of mine give almost as good as their male counterparts.

Some males just don't flare for whatever reason. Have you put him next to another male or tried putting a mirror up to his tank to see how he would react to that?

Or you could try switching the tv on! My betta only ever flares when he's watching telly with us. So far he doesn't seem to have any particular favourite programs though

I have a wonderful male who's never flared in the almost 10 months I've had him. But I did catch Bettalicious curiously and actively looking at his reflection in the glass of the tank tonight!!

I've only had one of about 4 bettas over the years who ever flared. I didn't know what people were talking about before that when they referred to flarring!!!

Sometimes I miss it, because he used to make me laugh 'cause he looked like mickey mouse-but sometimes he would also look scary to me, too. But I love him just how he is. (And he seems to love me, too)

:) My male betta hasn't flared and I've had him for a month and he is also in a community tank with a lot of fish.
