This isn't my tank, but my mother's. She has a 55gallon with 3 gold fish that are abut... 5 inches long each... and another little fish that I don't know (think it's a parrot cichlid or something that looked sorta like it)...
Anyways...
One of her goldfish is in seriously bad condition. It has knubs for pectoral fins, it's other fins are totally clamped to its body, I think I saw some red spots on it, and it was obviously struggling to swim. It looked as though it couldn't keep itself submerged and kept floating to the top of the tank.

One of her other goldfish has finrot I noticed, but I wasn't sure what finrot looked like if it went untreated. I didn't notice any black on the very sick goldfish. Just the missing/clamped fins, red spots and odd swimming.

No idea what water stats are. All I can tell you is that she's had this tank for well over 15yrs now and I've never seen her previous fish look this bad before.

What sort of meds could I give her to use on her tank to help the poor fish out? I really would prefer not to use expensive meds such as maracyn since she would need to use so much for her tank.

I do have Melafix that I can give to her to use.. think this would help cure whatever is wrong with her fish?

Well I would suggest isolating the goldfish then if you could. I think marcyn would be a good choice for treatment. Also you could try to find an API product that specifically treats Fin and tail rot, as their products are not as messy and they work GREAT!!

I understand what you are saying about treating the whole tank. I have a 55gallon goldfish tank and fish sick once and didn't want to treat the whole tank. So i took the specific fish out and isolated them in a 10gallon and treated that.

Good Luck!

Yeah she has some buckets I'll suggest to her for using to get the fish better and I'll loan her some meds that will hopefully work.

Yep, just be sure to stick an air stone in. And they will be fine. I have done that before with my fish.

:good: Hope he makes it!
