Well disaster, after recieving my ferts and co2, my lighting has decided to pack in completly. I have no idea what to do and can't believe it has happened just as my plants were beginning to get sorted.
I believe it is the juwel light failure, will my plants die straight away without the light source as i have no idea how i am going to fix this!?

They'll be fine for a good few days so don't worry too much. Is it just a blown tube?

No i dont think so, I have replaced starter and tube so its not them, i think it could be a faulty wire somewhere

lights should be on 10 hours a day. basically imo your fert is c**p. and 15 watts is not good, if you work that out, its 1.5watts per gallon, which isnt particularly good. it sounds like you have vailis, in my experience this plant is not very strong and seems to die, try growing java fern, java moss, anubias and crypts.- try using something like the tropica nutrition plus from aqua essentials.

What is the post about man?

10 hours a day is too much, with little ferts and no co2 the plants are going to be slow growing, slow growing plants with lots of light is going to give you a lot of algae problems

this is fine for many plants, you just have to choose correctly.

Vallisneria sp. is one of the toughest and easiest to keep plants around that grows quickly and sends out runners in all but the very worst of conditions.

I'm sorry, i don't like sounding like a prick but dont give advice that isn't correct:quality of posts - not quantity - i agree that the fert is crap if not used in conjunction with something else ;)

I dont have vallis, but might get some in the future if i can get some.
I have scrapped the majority of the plants, and have around 4 species left, one is definatley amazon sword, the others i have no idea and im thinking of getting rid of anyway since they look terrible.

Im thinking of ripping everything out and starting over with vallis, amazon sword and some others to fill in the spaces (ideas?) and then creating a java moss carpet.
Do you guys tend to have just one or two species of plant, or do you just use anything?
Im looking for something to cover the back wall, that isnt too demanding and that looks nice.
I would love some inspiration if anybody has any.
I have replaced my lighting today so have light, about 16 watt but better than nothing  and i am also dosing with easycarbo, and am concidered using teh TTNP+ but im a little aprehensive as i have a number of shrimp and have heard some horror stories from people using easycarbo and ferts and ending up with lots of dead shrimp.

anyway i would like to thank everyone for your advice and help with this, im hoping it will go well from here! :good:
