my male betta, tarzeik
is in a 5g tank
he has never blown a bubble nest before and im wanting to breed from him is the fact the hes never blown a nest before going to be a problem??? or might he blow a nest when i introduce a female???

Do more research before breeding... and breed quality fish not vts... there are already so many veiltails dying on the shelves of pet stores, y add to the population?

Some males never blow nests until a chance at a female. Let him be in sight of her for a couple days, and if he doens't build a nest in those couple days, then it will be a problem.

It only took mine 15mins of seeing the girls in the tank next door. Now he builds and then patrols to see if his girls are there.. Which they usually are for another 15mins when I get back from work and remove the divide between the two tanks.

I wouldn't worry, your male will get it into his head sooner or later. My gf's male took 2 days to figured how to make a nest, although keeping it overnight is still escaping his lil mind.

some males are keen buble nesters, some are not. my old crowntail was a terrible buble nester, even in sight of females. but my old veil built huge nests even when not in sight of other fish.

if you intend breeding from a veil tail.. be careful, you have to consider the fate of the young. its easy enough to sell on a dozen fry but what if you end up with a masive brood... not so easy to shift. if you insist on breeding from your vt, id suggest breeding it with another tail type. i crossed a vt female with a pk male and have a mixed bag of tail types in the young, i got mostely pk females with a couple of ct females and the males were all veils but with shorter fins, il try get some pics of them.

i live in new zealand the different tail types availiable here are pretty limited and the people that do breed the fancier tail type tend to live in the norht island and dont ship to the south island where i live.
i had a bit of bad luck luck with my females i just bought 3
the first 1 died the next day and then the 2nd one and the 3rd died this morning in the spawning tank
no symptoms they just died.
my male even went to the hard work to build 2 bubble nests!!!

how long did you have the females? have you donr your research on breeding? im probobly wrong but from reading the last post it sounds like you just got the females and wish to try breeding from them imediately. you will need to condition the prosptive parents for a at the bear minimum a week prior to breeding, but preferabley several weeks. and you will need to have suitable food cultured and growout tanks prepared and of course homes for your fish you breed

I have a male who is in sight of a female and is always trying to get her lol. He tries to break into her floating container, but after realizing that he can't he goes over to his styrofoam cup and starts blowing bubbles... but i will keep looking at his nest, and i see that there is barely and bubbles.

Why aren't there really any bubbles after hours of blowing them?

sounds like your water is too hard, the bubbles are coated in saliva, and this stays sticky better in soft water. easy way to test this is to rinse your hand under your tap water and then with your wet hands rub soap between your hands, if it lathers up in to foam real easy, you have soft water, if its hard to make it lather, your water is hard.

some males make beter nests than others. my old CT made pathetic nests that fell apart almost imediately after he left them. but my first pk males nest stayed intact for days after he had been removed from the breeding tank.

thanks blue_betta :)

if this is the case, then how would i be able to make my water softer for him?

aparently indian almond leaves do the job. a bit of bog wood will do the job too, ensuring you have no limestone/coral baled gravel in your tank. you can get stuff to lower/raise the ph in your tanks, surely same can be done for Dh
