Well I am in a frenzy now becuase plants are limited on this island and I just found blue green algae on most of the plants. How do I get it off? Will it kill my plants? Please help!

Thanks,

DL

What I do when I get it and its getting invasive, is a 50% water change removing as much of the stuff as I can, then do a three and a half day complete blackout, I put on an airstone and don’t use Co2 during the blackout. No light whatsoever should reach the tank. The fish and plants do okay with this. I then do another big water change and clean filter etc to remove the dead algae. If its not too bad I just remove some of it with each water change. I have it in my main tank but its stayed very low level so its nothing to worry about.
It wont kill the plants unless it really takes over.

I haven’t used antibiotics but that’s also an option, though care has to be taken in case it depletes the filter bacteria.

Okay thank you! I may try something like the blackout as i'm going away for a week and I won't have the aquarium light on. This makes the tank dark due to the background on it.
