I finally got a bit of a nitrite reading, which, after weeks of high ammonia readings, I think means that my tank is at its final stage in cycling, am I right? How long does the nitrite spike last? It is only 0.25 right now. Ammonia is high, but I use that Ammo-Lock stuff which I hear throws off the readings. Anyway, just wanted to know how to handle the nitrites, constant water changes or let it run its course?

Dont add that ammo lock it will mess up your cycle. You are in the middle of your cycle, when you ammon gets to 0 and nitrite off the charts, that is your nitrite spike!

Then it will stay off the charts anywhere from 1 week to month.

What temp is your tank at?

Its been on the warm side lately.. as a result of the summer weather, and I was battling Ick earlier so I increased the temp and added some salt. I've lost a couple of fish during this whole process...

About 80-82 degrees.
